Frequently Asked Questions
New baggage policy
What is the new baggage policy?
US Airways will assess a $15 fee for passengers' first checked bags. If you purchased a ticket before July 9, the first bag fee won’t apply. We also now charge $25 for all second checked bags. The new checked bag policies apply to all flights to and from Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as flights within the U.S.

- Passengers traveling to and from Europe
- Confirmed First Class and Envoy passengers at time of check-in

Why the policy change?
With fuel costs higher than they’ve ever been, we’ve simply had to look at ways to offset our increased operating costs. Approximately 67 percent of US Airways customers check one bag, and every checked bag drives our operating costs a little higher. Our revenues must keep pace with our operating costs.

How will this affect the carry-on baggage policy?
The FAA policy states that airline passengers are allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item when boarding aircraft. This will still apply. Read the entire FAA carry-on policy. US Airways will add staff to monitor security check points to ensure that customers don’t arrive at gates with more carry on luggage than the FAA allows.

What about curbside check-in? May I check my bags at curbside?
Curbside check-in is available at many airports. You'll be charged a $2 curbside check-in fee in addition to the appropriate baggage fee. For example, if you check one bag, you'd pay a total of $17 ($2 for curbside check-in and $15 for your first checked bag). You must pay with a credit card to use curbside check-in.
